The Centre for Languages and Cultural Diplomacy (CLCD), IDFR has begun to conduct its courses face-to-face following the COVID-19 endemic phase in Malaysia, adhering to strict Standard Operating Procedures (S.O.P.) as outlined by the government. The three-day intensive course aims to aid participants to be intelligible in what they wish to convey in oral communication. The objectives of the course are to raise the participants’ awareness of the English Sound System, elements influencing effective speech such as intonation, word and sentence stress and rhythm, distinguishing different pronunciations and accents, among others. These significant factors when combined, will encourage better communicative skills. Participants will demonstrate confidence through practice as they improve their pronunciation at the end of the course.
The course was attended by 19 participants from various ministries; among them were from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Human Resources, Ministry of Finance, Prime Minister’s Department, National Audit Department, Ministry of Works, Ministry of Rural Development, Parliament of Malaysia, Chief Government Security Office and the Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations. The course encouraged participants to speak in English intelligibly through interactive classroom sessions, adopting various learning methods to gauge their understanding of the speech skills to ensure a comprehensible and enjoyable learning experience of speaking effectively in English.
