The SPKM: Pre-Posting Course for Home-Based Staff and Spouses Series 4 (SPKM 4/2024), successfully took place from 9 to 13 September 2024, participated by 48 officers and spouses. The attendees hailed from various government bodies, including the Ministry of Higher Education, Malaysian Armed Forces, Immigration Department of Malaysia, Jabatan Agama Islam Selangor, and Majlis Agama Islam Melaka.

This intensive five-day programme was designed comprehensively to provide a thorough understanding of the administrative procedures and management protocols at Malaysian embassies and consulates. Participants had the privilege of learning from seasoned diplomats who facilitated in-depth sessions on consular services, diplomatic protocol, and the nuances of maintaining diplomatic relations. By the course's conclusion, attendees were empowered with the necessary insights to carry out their duties abroad with confidence and competence.

In line with evolving needs and challenges, this SPKM series saw the introduction of two crucial sessions: Pengurusan Jenazah (Funeral Management) and Kesihatan Mental Kunci Kebahagiaan Hidup (Mental Health is the Key to a Happy Life) The Pengurusan Jenazah session offered vital information on managing funeral arrangements for Malaysians abroad, ensuring that officers are well-prepared to handle such sensitive situations with cultural and religious care. Meanwhile, the Mental Health is the Key to a Happy Life session equipped participants with the tools and strategies to manage stress, maintain emotional balance, and foster mental well-being throughout their postings, acknowledging the psychological pressures that can accompany life in a foreign country.

Feedback from participants reflected high satisfaction, with many expressing appreciation for the comprehensive and interactive nature of the sessions. The diverse range of topics covered, combined with practical insights from experts, greatly enhanced their readiness for overseas postings, both professionally and personally.

The course concluded with a closing ceremony graced by the IDFR Director General, Dato’ Syed Bakri Syed Abdul Rahman. In his address, he praised the participants' enthusiasm and active engagement throughout the programme. He extended his gratitude to the distinguished speakers who generously shared their vast knowledge and experience. He also urged participants to apply the insights gained during the course in their future roles and approach their postings with professionalism, adaptability, and resilience.

As they embark on their new journeys, these officers and their spouses are now better equipped to represent Malaysia and serve the country.
