IDFR welcomed the Vice President of the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam, Dr. Nguyen Hung Son, alongside a Vietnamese delegation composed of officials from the Diplomatic Academy, the Vietnam Coast Guard, and the Directorate of Fisheries, on 29 July 2024 to engage in discussions with key representatives from IDFR. The meeting, chaired by Dato’ Syed Mohamad Bakri Syed Abdul Rahman, Director General of IDFR, took place in the Executive Meeting Room, IDFR.
The agenda for the meeting centered on several key objectives, including enhancing bilateral cooperation in diplomatic training between the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam and IDFR, exchanging views on regional and international issues, discussing maritime security challenges in Southeast Asia, and emphasizing the importance of cooperation within the ASEAN framework.
The Vietnamese delegation also sought to promote mutual understanding between Malaysia and Vietnam by gaining insights into Malaysia's strategic approaches and developments in diplomatic training. Dato’ Syed Mohamad Bakri Syed Abdul Rahman shared insights into IDFR's focus on cultivating critical thinking among diplomats while underscoring the importance of traditional diplomacy in building and maintaining international relationships, especially in an era of rapid technological advancements. The commitment to upholding core diplomatic values and integrating strategic approaches was reaffirmed as essential for addressing contemporary challenges. The meeting was seen as a positive step toward further strengthening the relationship between Malaysia and Vietnam, particularly in the realm of diplomatic training and strategic collaboration.
