"WHERE DIVERSITY MEETS FOR A GIFT OF HOPE”
The Opening Ceremony of the Wisma Putra International Charity Bazaar 2011 which aims to raise funds to be donated to the pediatric wards in and around Kuala Lumpur and organizations in need was held on 16 April 2011 at the Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations (IDFR), the training arm of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Malaysia, Jalan Wisma Putra, Kuala Lumpur.
The bazaar is also intended to provide an opportunity to embassies in Kuala Lumpur to promote their culture, tourism, food and goods (products) of their country. At the same time, the bazaar will also provide a platform to the general public to interact with foreign embassies, ministries/agencies/departments and the corporate sector which will also be taking part in the bazaar.
The Opening Ceremony which began at 10.00 a.m. was graced by Y.Bhg. Datin Sri Siti Rubiah Datuk Abdul Samad, Patron of PERWAKILAN followed by a Press Conference and ended with a VIP’s tour by Y.Bhg. Datin Sri accompanied by Y.Bhg. Datuk Mohd Radzi Abdul Rahman, Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Y.Bhg. Dato’ Ku Jaafar Ku Shaari, Director General of IDFR and Y.Bhg. Datin Jazliza Jalaluddin, President of PERWAKILAN.
The Opening Ceremony started off on a high note when the arrival of Y.Bhg. Datin Sri was accompanied by the talented Victoria Institution Bagpipe Cadet which engulfed the whole audience into their bagpipe world. This was followed by the singing of Malaysia’s national anthem, “Negaraku” and the recitation of Doa’ by En. Mohd Sabri Zakaria, Assistant Director IDFR. T
The Opening Ceremony then continued with having the Opening Remarks by Y.Bhg. Datuk Mohd Radzi Abdul Rahman, Y.Bhg. Datin Jazliza Jalaluddin and followed by Y.Bhg. Datin Sri Siti Rubiah Datuk Abdul Samad for her Opening Remarks. Y.Bhg. Datin Sri Siti Rubiah Datuk Abdul Samad then launch the Wisma Putra International Charity Bazaar 2011 by thumping a Gong to symbolically kick starts the Bazaar.
Y.Bhg. Datin Sri Siti Rubiah Datuk Abdul Samad was accompanied on stage by the VIPs and the “Little Ambassadors” who wore traditional clothes from all over the global to celebrate the colourful diversity of the global citizens.
The Sponsors were then invited on stage for a Mock Cheque Presentation to the PERWAKILAN and a Group Photo with Y.Bhg. Datin Sri Siti Rubiah Datuk Abdul Samad.
To entice the audiences with the offerings of the Bazaar, there were three (3) performances showcased by the Embassies which were the Embassy of the Republic of Venezuela, the Embassy of the Russian Federation and the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China. The audiences were captivated by all the performances and were looking forward for more performances as scheduled in the programme of the two days event.
Following the Opening Ceremony, the VIPs were then ushered into the Press Conference Room which was packed with Medias. The Press Conference provided the window for Y.Bhg. Datin Sri Siti Rubiah Datuk Abdul Samad to express PERWAKILAN’s hope on the bazaar.
The Opening Ceremony ended on a lighter note with the VIP tour by Y.Bhg. Datin Sri Siti Rubiah Datuk Abdul Samad accompanied by the other VIPs to the five (5) attractions of the bazaar which sees the participation of 38 foreign embassies in Kuala Lumpur, 30 institutes of higher learning and private institutions as well as 43 indigenous entrepreneurs and 18 food operators. The five (5) main attractions of the bazaar are:-
1. Global Village – Promotion by foreign missions in Kuala Lumpur of their respective countries’ culture, tourism potential, education, etc. Special tents would be provided to them for this purpose;
2. World Cuisine – Promotion of international and local cuisines through food stall set up by foreign missions as well as those in the local food business;
3. Aim High – An “education fair” in which Institutions of higher learning international schools, travel agencies and computer firms would promote their goods and services by setting up promotion booths;
4. It is a Small World – Cultural performances by the foreign missions and local cultural groups; and
5. Bazaar Malaysia – Stalls that sell foreign and local consumer items like handicrafts, clothes, books, costume jewelry etc.
In line with the main goal of the Bazaar which is to raise funds for charitable purposes, the public are invited to come to the bazaar which would be open from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. 16 - 17 April 2011.
