YBhg. Dato’ Ku Jaafar Ku Shaari, Director General of the Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations (IDFR) and Professor Dr. Mohammad Hashim Kamali, Founding Chairman & CEO of the Institute of International Institute of Advanced Islamic Studies (IAIS) were the special guests of Astro Awani’s most-watched talk show, Sudut Pandang on 3 October 2011 (Monday) at 10.00 pm.
Kamarul Bahrin Haron, the anchor, was very excited to have both guests on his show as he felt the Forum on Peace and Security: Islamic Perspectives is timely. He strongly believes the 9/11 incident was the turning point of international diplomacy of the Islamic world and The West. Most of his questions revolved on the world’s view and perception of Islam (Islamophobia) and how diplomacy plays its part in bridging the gap of these two worlds.
Prof. Dr. Kamali was of the view that Muslims should go back to the roots and be truthful to others. He emphasized that Islam does not permit a Muslim to resort to violence for Islam is a religion of peace.
Dato’ Ku offered views that the incident of human conflicts, wars, injustice and human suffering that are so prevalent all over the globe, including in some Islamic countries, points to the urgent need for a new look at how we deal with the problems facing mankind.
YABhg. Tun Abdullah Haji Ahmad Badawi, former Prime Minister and the Patron of IAIS will be delivering a Keynote Address for the Forum which will be held at IDFR on 4 October 2011 (Tuesday). The Forum is jointly organized by IDFR and IAIS featuring Islamic scholars and thinkers as prominent panelists. Among the panelists are: Professor Emeritus Datuk Dr. Osman Bakar (Deputy CEO, IAIS), Professor Dr. Karim D. Crow (Principal Research Fellow of IAIS), Professor Dato’ Muhammad Abu Bakar (Department of International Relations and Strategic Studies, University of Malaya), Professor Dr. Muddathir Abddel-Rahim (Professor of Political Science & Islamic Studies, ISTAC and Mr. Zakri Jaafar (OIC Division, Wisma Putra).
