IDFR’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri Open House Celebration

Some 40 children aged between 4 to 16 years old from Rumah Amal Limpahan Kasih (RALK) and guests from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs were feted to a Hari   Raya Open House by the Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations (IDFR) on 8th October 2010.  IDFR’s Director General, Dato’ Ku Jaafar Ku Shaari hosted the  event together with staff of the Institute.

This Hari Raya gathering was not only to celebrate Eid Ul-Fitr after a month of fasting but also as part of the Institute’s maiden Corporate Social Responsibilty (CSR) programme initiative whereby IDFR hopes to provide support to the Orphanage in skills building through a community-based development approach as well as the common approach of philanthropy.

In the spirit of Hari Raya of giving, the children from the Orphanage received a token sum of money or ‘duit raya’ from the contribution of IDFR staff and before heading home, they were given an IDFR bag pack each as a small memento from IDFR.  The smiling faces and waving of goodbyes from the children remained in the hearts of IDFR.

The Orphanage located at Kampung Seri Aman, Puchong, Selangor is home to 115 orphans from various age and ethnic groups.  The home founded by Puan Rabaah bte Abdul Aziz started operations in 2006, initially in a rented terrace house which served as the hostel for its female occupants.  The home later expanded to include a hostel for its male occupants.

RALK depends on donations and needs RM45,000 monthly to manage the home.  To offset some of its running costs, RALK has opened a flower nursery, cafeteria and boutique selling hand-sewn clothes for additional income which will also allow its occupants to gain business entrepreneurship skills.
