Diplomacy is an ongoing process of states promoting goodwill in furtherance of safeguarding the country’s state policies, national security and interests. To accomplish the process, it requires diplomatic agents to engage with various state or non-state entities through communications, dialogues and negotiations. In the 21st century, diplomacy is becoming more intricate and multifaceted. Given the complexity and interconnectedness due to globalization today, the nature of diplomacy has shifted into a new direction and poses new challenges for diplomatic actors. The role of diplomats, therefore, has become more significant and diverse. These officials are demanded to master professional negotiation techniques and develop sharp critical thinking skills at the same time. Hence, it is critical for young diplomats to grasp essential insight into the craft of diplomacy and their effective application, and to keep abreast of current international issues and trends. The course aims to enhance the participants’ diplomatic knowledge and skills in the conduct of diplomatic and foreign relations as well as to improve the participants’ professionalism and effectiveness in their performance of duties as diplomatic officers at home and abroad.
