The Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations (IDFR) bid farewell to Tan Sri Hasmy Agam, the Executive Chairman of IDFR on July 2nd 2010. After three years and five months at IDFR, Tan Sri Hasmy Agam will assume the post of Chairman of the Malaysian Human Rights Commission (Suhakam) beginning 5th July 2010. During his tenure at IDFR, Tan Sri Hasmy Agam has succeeded in turning IDFR into a boutique university specializing in international affairs. The farewell, held at IDFR was attended by all staff of IDFR.
Tan Sri Hasmy Agam has been the Executive Chairman of IDFR since February 2007.
The staff of IDFR held a small farewell reception in the Institute’s court yard. After the “doa selamat” was recited, followed by cutting of the “pulut kuning”, Tan Sri Hasmy Agam was presented with a gift as a token of appreciation by the officers and staffs. Ambassador Abdullah Faiz Zain, the Senior Director of IDFR gave a farewell speech on behalf of the officers and staffs. Amongst other, Ambassador Faiz cited that Tan Sri Hasmy Agam has succeeded in turning IDFR into a boutique university, specializing in international affairs. Recent success was the graduation of the first batch of the Diploma in Diplomacy - the first in house Diploma conducted by IDFR. Tan Sri Hasmy Agam in his return speech thanked the staff of IDFR and wishes that they continue the fine tradition of excellence in training future diplomats. He reminiscent his years in Wisma Putra and the many cherished memories including the time he met his future wife in the Ministry.
Tan Sri Hasmy Agam will assume the post of Chairman of the Malaysian Human Rights Commission (Suhakam) on 5th July 2010. He has been in the Malaysian Foreign Service for close to 40 years, serving in various capacities at home and abroad which include among others, as Malaysia’s Permanent Representative to United Nations, including as UN Security Council President. He was also Malaysia’s Ambassador at Large for NAM and former Ambassador to Libya and France. Tan Sri Hasmy Agam also served as a Fellow at ISIS Malaysia, Adjunct Professor at University Utara Malaysia (UUM), the International Islamic University (IIUM) and University Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), and a Member of the UN Secretary – General’s Board on Disarmament Matters.
