From 15 to 18 July 2024, the Centre for Political Studies and Economic Diplomacy (PSED), IDFR in collaboration with the Competency Enhancement Centre (CEC), IDFR had organised a course entitled ‘Crisis Management and Crisis Preparedness’. It was attended by a total of 15 Diploma in Diplomacy (DiD) participants from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Malaysia and the Prime Minister's Department.

The objective of the programme was to equip Malaysian government officials with the knowledge and expertise necessary to manage crises with greater efficacy when posted abroad. The first three days of the course concentrated on exposing participants to relevant modules such as Conflicts, Crises, and Tipping Points; Role of National Security Council (MKN) and National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) During Crises Abroad; Role of Diplomats When Serving Abroad; Managing Documents and Government Assets; Creating Effective Communication During a Crisis; as well as Fleeing a Mission from real-life cases, particularly from Sudan and North Korea.

The final day concluded with a crisis simulation exercise conducted at IDFR, where the participants' ability were tested to respond swiftly and effectively under pressure, focusing on crisis management and decision-making, while balancing diplomatic protocols during a situation in crisis at a mission abroad. The exercise emphasised the importance of strategic thinking, teamwork, and adaptability in maintaining embassy operations while ensuring the safety of staff members, their families, and Malaysian nationals residing there as well as maintaining communication with the host country's authorities.

The participants were awarded a certificate of participation, presented by YBhg. Dato’ Westmoreland Edward Palon which marked the successful completion of their training journey.
